KA and SPDC troops clash two days running: 2 casualties

Jan 4, 2010 - The Karenni Army came face to face with Burmese army troops on December 27th and 28th in Shadaw and Mawchi. No casualties were reported amongst the KA troops, but two Burmese privates were reportedly killed.

A Karenni Army officer said that the first gunfight occurred between SPDC troops and the KA on December 27, 2009 at 07:30 near Daw Mumar, Shadaw.

According to the source the clash between about 30 armed SPDC men from LIB no. 575, commanded by Major Aung Thein Lwin, and a platoon of KA, led by Captain Lee Reh, lasted about 45 minutes. The KA troops didn't sustain any injuries as a result of this encounter, but it was reported that a Burmese private was killed and another private injured during the gunfight.

The KA also seized 2 MA-1s from the Burmese troops.

The following day (December 28th, 2009) another face-to-face gunfight was reported by an inside source. This clash took place at Pine Tree Mountain near Mawchi, Pasaung township.

Burmese major Myint Oo was commanding 60 armed men in the mountain range when they suddenly came under fire from a Karenni guerrilla force, led by Sergeant Ah Free. The source reported that the body of a Burmese private was found at the scene and they also seized an MA-1.
