Ethnic race Burmese private defects to the KA

Dec 19, 2009 - A Burmese private named Sai Kyaw Thu Ye Aung gave himself up to the Karenni army on December 9 this year, a KA officer has reported.

"Sai Kyaw Thu Ye Aung brought with him a MA, 3 magazines and 140 bullets," said the officer. According to the officer Sai Kyaw Thu Ye Aung, who is a Shan, joined the BA because his parents were killed for growing poppies and he was told to join the army or suffer the same fate.

He enrolled at Muse-Lasho army camp then was sent to Pinlong training school by IB no. 68 where he completed four and a half months of basic military training.

He was then sent to join LIB no. 428 at Pruso army camp in Karenni State in 2005. He has worked in Shadaw, Prusoe, Bawlake and Maese during his service in Karenni State. "He was fed up of the life of a soldier and wishes to go back to his native place to live peacefully with his other brothers and sisters," added the KA source.
