Military camp utilising Forced Labour
Jan 30, 2009 - The Burmese commander of Phukrakhu-based LIB no. 576 has ordered 10 villagers from each village located in Dohpreh village tract to work at his military camp. A local source has reported that Captain Tin Zaw Htun gave the order that the villagers had to report to work on a daily basis starting from January 25th. Amongst their duties the recruited villagers have to carry two tins of water each from the stream to the army camp.
The villages affected by this order are Phukrakhu, Bisoe, Weithutaw, Dohpreh, Hteeduleh, Hteeduku, Lyadu, Khoprah and Thokhu.
LIB no 576 comes under the command of Military operation no 17.
"Before LIB no. 576 was billeted here, LIB no. 520 was stationed in Phukrakhu and they frequently confiscated domestic animals from the village," said the source. Burmese troops under the command of Captain Htet Zaw confiscated the following items from Phukrakhu: a pig on 30/12/08, a pig on 5/1/09, a cow on 14/1/09, two sacks of rice on 13/1/09 and a pig on 15/1/09.
