Burmese troops demand bamboo
Sep 23, 2009 - Families from nine villages located in Shadaw and Hsomoe Townships have been forced by Burmese troops from LIB no. 576, to provide them with bamboo to fence off their army camp, an inside source has reported.
Major Kyaw Thu Myo, commander of LIB no. 576’s Tangoo Mountain-base, issued this order to nine villages: Daw Tanaw, Daw Muleh, Lyadu Kaw, Klaleh, Suuleh (Kayah section), Lyadu and Daw Naw Kluu. According to the order every family has to provide a bamboo pole which is 22.6 inches in length. "All the bamboo must be delivered to the army camp within 7 days from the date of the order. Demand of materials by Burmese troops is very common," added the source.
According to the source there are 70 families in Daw Tanaw, 70 families in Daw Muleh, 25 families in Lyadukaw, 30 families in Klaleh, 50 families in Suuleh, 10 families in Lyadu, 50 families in Daw Naw Kluu, 25 families in Daw Nohku and 10 families in Daw Taku.
However, a copy of the order sent by the Burmese commander wasn't available when this information was reported.
