Antimony extracted by cease-fire group for own fund
Aug 21, 2008 - It has been reported by an inside source that a cease-fire armed group reached agreement with ruling Burmese military in 1999, known as the Karenni National Progressive Party (Kayawni), has been granted a concession to extract antimony in Karenni State. This concession was given in 2007 in order to develop the area and provide funds for the cease-fire group, which is led by Francis (also known as Yan Naing Soe). more »
Villagers ordered to guard electrical pylons

Aug 12, 2008 - Burmese troops from Loilin based LIB no 530 are not only requiring Karenni villagers to provide free labour to build or repair their military camps, but they are also demanding they provide materials too. It is common for villagers to be required to provide bamboo, but according to an inside source all the villages in Hteesakah and Tee Lon village tracts have ordered to provide teak in addition to labour. The villages were told that if they did not supply three teak planks (30 inches wide x 15 foot long) each then their villager leader would face a fine and imprisonment. more »
Persistent demands for materials by Burmese troop
Jul 28, 2008 - The unrelenting demands by Burmese troops continue to impose a burden on Karenni villages. According to an inside source, villages located in Kaylya and Markrawshe village tracts have been ordered to supply building materials to repair a military camp situated in Markrawshe. Major Soe Tint Oo, the commander of LIB no. 427, ordered Markrawshe village tract to provide a hundred 9-foot long wooden posts, while villages in Kaylya village tract were charged with supplying 4,000 bamboo poles starting from July 28th. more »
Burmese Army demands labour and building materials
Jul 15, 2008 - Villagers from Daw Tamadu, Daw Kauk, Daw Tacha, Daw Hsophya and Daw Nyikhu villages, which are all part of Daw Tamadu village tract, Deemawso Township, have been ordered to provide Burmese troops from LIB no. 421 with wood and bamboo to fence off the army camp, an inside source has reported. more »
Seven family members killed by Burmese officials
Jul 10, 2008 - According to an inside source a villager from Hsorapheku, Koson village tract, Phekon Township in southern Shan State arrived at the Karenni army camp in Shadaw Township on July 9th and reported that he is the sole survivor of a massacre of his family by Burmese local officials. more »
