Burmese Army demands labour and building materials
Jul 15, 2008 - Villagers from Daw Tamadu, Daw Kauk, Daw Tacha, Daw Hsophya and Daw Nyikhu villages, which are all part of Daw Tamadu village tract, Deemawso Township, have been ordered to provide Burmese troops from LIB no. 421 with wood and bamboo to fence off the army camp, an inside source has reported. more »
Seven family members killed by Burmese officials
Jul 10, 2008 - According to an inside source a villager from Hsorapheku, Koson village tract, Phekon Township in southern Shan State arrived at the Karenni army camp in Shadaw Township on July 9th and reported that he is the sole survivor of a massacre of his family by Burmese local officials. more »
Obligatory 100% interest loans cripple families
Jul 10, 2008 - Crippling debts are being forced on families living in the Loilin, Loilin Lay and Hteesakha village tracts by Burmese troops who constrain the villagers to borrow money from the army. Soldiers from LIB no. 530 insist families take out loans which have to be repaid within the year along with an interest charge equal to the amount of the loan. more »
